Building into March

New name, who dis?  Welcome to the Weekly Run Down.  New this week is that the Weekly Wrap linkup has changed hands and changed names to the Weekly Run Down.  For those of you who subscribe to my newsletter, the Rundown, you will see the name twice 🙂 This week I was building into March! Linking up with hosts Deborah and Kim for this weekly training recap.

Monday 2/25

Run: Team Workout.  The fever and chills I felt on Sunday lingered into Monday.  But I still had to show up for the workout.  Surprisingly, this run went really well!  We did 4 miles worth of speed, all hovering around 5k and mile pace.  So much top end speed, but I hung on. Proud of my effort and so grateful to have teammates to work with on these days.  The rest of the day I felt pretty run down though and my cold settled in for the week.

Tuesday 2/26

Run: Easy.  I ran easy miles with Sprint Tuesday in the morning.  The winds were insane!

Other: Coaching.  Normally, I don’t coach Tuesday evenings, but I laced up my shoes a second time.  The weather improved from the morning and I ran with a few pace groups.  Super proud of all the work they did.  I am NOT an evening runner, so seeing them push hard paces amazes me.

Wednesday 2/27

Run: I totaled over 12 miles on Tuesday, so I rested today. Still felt sick and drained.

Other:  Crazy story.  I had, what I now refer to as, a “What You Should and Shouldn’t Skimp on” experience.  I heard about the benefits of acupuncture and wanted to try it out myself.  There was a deal on Groupon so I thought, why not? Since I was still feeling sick, the therapist put a bunch of needles in my face to help drain my sinuses.  The actual experience was fine – needles went in, I sat alone with soft music, I think I even fell asleep, needles came out, and I left.

WELL.  I ran a few errands after and stopped in the bathroom at one point.  Not all the needles came out! I had one sticking out of my ear and one near my eyebrow!  The therapist had even handed me a glass of water when I was leaving like they do after a massage.  How did she miss them? I will not be going back there!  Can you imagine? I had been walking around for a good 30 minutes in PUBLIC with these in!

Thursday 2/28

Run: Tempo.  Oh did this go terribly.  A lesson in poor sleep and poor nutrition.  I was up all night worrying about a meeting I had that afternoon.  Combined with poor nutrition from stress eating and lingering sickness, my body said NO WAY to this run.  I wrote my coach about it and really need to have a serious sit down about training and the string of botched tempo runs.

Other: Team Workout.  Went to strength class with the team and met Emily’s new puppy, Bama.  The cutest and calmest puppy I’ve met.  Although, any puppy compared to Frizzle is calm.

Friday 3/1

Run: Finally felt better, but still opted to rest. Mentally I just wasn’t feeling good. I just did a core workout instead.

Other: This week was National Eating Disorder Week.  In case you missed it, I shared this post.

Saturday 3/2

Run:  Long run.  I drove out to Morton with Andrea for 19 miles.  It was my longest run since the Berlin Marathon (which happened right in the middle of my injury recovery) and the longest run I had done since before Earth Day 50k! It was a big day.  The run felt hard.  Got through it, but felt a lot harder than I would have liked.

Sunday 3/3

Run: Easy miles. I felt like the tin man, but got in some easy miles along the lake.  It was supposed to be trail, but I know that they are un-runnable (sheets of ice) so I stayed local.

Other: Packing!  I cannot WAIT to get out of Chicago and head to California this week.  I will be bunking with Erica again at Expo West.  It was a blast last year and this year I am looking forward to trying new products.  Trends to see this year include CBD oils, mushroom/adaptogen infused products, and sustainable packaging.  Then I’ll be hanging in LA with my dad, soaking in the warmer temperatures.

And that’s a wrap!  Building into March with another solid 51 miles for the week.  My schedule for the coming week will be a bit funky with the Expo taking over Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  I cannot WAIT

How was your week?  Have any crazy stories to share? Let’s stay in touch!  Follow me on Instagram or Facebook for more food/fitness related posts.

Happy running,

Becca

a lot of miles (comparatively to mine of course) and not feeling well – I hope you are finally better again! I’m not sure I would have been able to run with fever and chills! so odd that the acupuncturist left the needles in! in some cases this can be done for nausea or other reasons but they should always tell you what’s been left and why! no good! way to get your 19 miles done! omg that is so long… I don’t miss these long runs at the moment! no marathon training for me until June or July! I… Read more »

I’ve never tried acupuncture personally but many of my furkids have had it. They always count the needles!

Sounds like despite the illness, you still had a very solid week. Hopefully you’ll continue to recover nicely. And hopefully you’ll get some sunshine in CA!

Hopefully this week was rock bottom for you and better, easier runs will be ahead.

That story about the acupuncturist leaving the needles in your face left me horrified! Did you call them? WTH?

I’m glad that you started to feel better as the week went on.

I let out a small scream when you talked about the leftover needles – that’s nuts! I also don’t see how she could leave needles in!

That photo of Bama is so cute!

Glad you’re feeling better ahead of your trip
That’s frightening re: the needles. Imagine one in the wrong place could cause some serious damage

Michelle @ Running with Attitude

Good grief I can’t believe the acupuncturist left needles in!

Enjoy your trip to California!

Here’s a funny story with a similar twist to your acupuncture story. A good friend (years ago, before I knew her very well) had gone to an away basketball game with her hubby and three sons. She’d put a velcro roller in her hair for the car ride, but forgot to remove it before going into the game. It wasn’t until she went to use the restroom at half time that she noticed the roller…and NO ONE had said anything to her about it LOL The hubby and sons had not noticed it, and none of the other people said… Read more »
