Is it donut or doughnut? Contemplate while chowing down at these locations. Ever wonder where to get vegan donuts in Chicago? Look no further. With National Donut Day coming up on June 1st, I’ve compiled a list of some of the places where you can get vegan donuts in Chicago. This is not an extensive list, and I am hoping to add to it. Please let me know if I’ve missed any!
Firecakes
2453 N Clark St, Chicago, IL (and others)
Firecakes has locations in River North, Lincoln Park, Oak Park and the Loop. Their Coconut Chocolate Mousse donut is both vegan and gluten-free. Double bonus!
Do-Rite Donuts
50 w. Randolph St., Chicago, IL (and others)
Do-Rite Donuts has locations in West Loop, Streeterville and the Loop. They offer various varieties of vegan donuts including spiced maple chai, orange olive oil, and vegan double chocolate. YUM.
Damn Fine Coffee Bar
3317 W Armitage Ave., Chicago IL
Self-proclaimed “oasis in a coffee desert,” you can find some vegan donuts at Damn Fine Coffee Bar in Logan Square. They get daily deliveries from Do-Rite Donuts to complement their coffee and tea selection.
Stan’s Donuts
2800 N Clark St, Chicago, IL (and others)
Stan’s has 8 locations around Chicago and one store in the suburbs. Their vegan recipe donuts include sugar and cinnamon sugar. Stan’s also puts on a Donut 5k in the summer, perfect for any runner with a sweet tooth.
West Town Bakery-
1916 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL (and others)
In addition to their West Town and River North locations, West Town Bakery just opened a new location across from Wrigley Field. Dangerously close for Cubs games. They make a chocolate chocolate and a peanut butter granola vegan donut.
Jackalope Coffee & Tea House
755 W 32nd Street, Chicago, IL
Chicago vegans in the Bridgeport neighborhood can get their vegan donut fix at Jackalope Coffee & Tea House. The cafe carries vegan donuts on Saturday mornings. They recommend getting there early if you want one so they don’t sell out!
Smack Dab
6730 N. Clark Chicago, IL
Smack Dab Chicago in Rogers Park is another restaurant that offers vegan donuts. Every day they make 3 small batch vegan flavors. National Donut Day also kicks off Pride Month, during which Smack Dab will donate 10% of all pastry sales during the month to three local organizations that service the queer community.
Wheat’s End Cafe
2873 North Broadway, Chicago, IL
Located in East Lakeview, Wheat’s End Cafe is a completely gluten-free cafe that offers breakfast, bunch and lunch in addition to sweets. Their donuts are corn, soy and peanut-free, handmade in the Ravenswoods neighborhood. The vegan donut flavors include: coconut, chocolate ganache, pumpkin ginger and strawberry (new!).

Stan’s fries in the same fryer as their lard based donuts so if you avoid obvious cross contamination issues they’re a no go, FYI. I was really disappointed to find out.

Thanks for the lust! Some of the neighborhood places were new to me. I also want to note that Do-Rite has more than the three varieties you mentioned. I’ve also had a birthday sprinkle one, a berry one, and a lemon one. I think they alternate. I’ve never seen the chocolate one you mentioned, so I may have to increase the frequency of my visits!
