Weekly Wrap 20

Welcome to Weekly Wrap 20!  This was week 11 of Earth Day 50k training.  It was a recovery week (although ended up being about the same as last week).  Just one more build week before taper!  Linking up with Holly and Wendy for Weekly Wrap 20!

Monday 3/19

Run: Went to Stair Mondays for some “elevation” work.  7.3 miles in total with the group above.  I was also able to catch an afternoon strength class at EDGE.  They’re doing a 6 week challenge and have added a lot more classes to the schedule.  We did a crazy amount of plank jacks and my hips were tired later that day.

Other: Published a new spring recipe: vegan frittata!  It features leeks and asparagus, two vegetables high in Vitamin C, K and manganese, plus plenty of iron and protein from tofu and nutritional yeast.  Check it out here.

Tuesday 3/20

Run: Nez and I were the only two brave souls who showed up to a WINDY Track Tuesday.  The workout was 2×2 miles with 4 x.25 at the end.  It was a lot easier doing the first mile south with a tailwind than it was heading back north!

Other: In the evening, I went to the Lulu run for an easy 6 miles.  I gave some energy bites to my friend Abbie to try out as a healthy on-the-go snack option.  My first delivery by running ha!

Wednesday 3/21

Run: I initially was going to run today and rest tomorrow before my long run, but I didn’t have enough time in the morning.  Instead, I just did strength class.  Robyn wrote in a bunch of prisoner jacks – I was still sore from Mondays class!

Thursday 3/22

Run:  I hit another strength class this morning (THREE in one week?! Who am I?).  There were MORE prisoner jacks.  I’ve done more this week alone than probably all last year.  Afterwards I did an easy 6 mile “shake some blood back into these legs” recovery run before work.

Other: In the afternoon, Jon came over to help me prep the rest of the giveaway boxes for my Expo West giveaway. And gloat about going to the Cubs spring training in warm Arizona.

Friday 3/23

Run:  Fridays have become my first long run day of the weekend since I don’t work.  Luckily, I have friends who also have a flexible schedule and was able to run 18 miles on the trails with company this time.  It felt great!

Other:  With Easter coming up next week, I wrote a blog post centered around my family’s Easter tradition: brunch!  After some research, I found 5 restaurants in Chicago with a vegan Easter brunch option.  Check it out here.

Saturday 3/24

Run:  With a forecast of snow, I stayed local.  Luckily I was able to hop in with the EDGE running group for 15 miles of company.  We ran hill repeats on the Damen Bridge.  The run felt great but I experienced pretty major discomfort in my right hip flexor for the rest of the day and evening, so much so that I had trouble falling asleep.  I’m worried but trying not to freak that it’s something major.  Planning a doctor appointment this coming week to check it out.

Other:  In the afternoon I went to the Good Food Expo.  It’s a free event that features local and sustainable companies.  Many familiar faces were there, like Sacred Serve and No Denial Foods, but I also met some really cool companies like Here Co. and  Gotham Greens. At the Here booth, I learned that they use 90% local produce in their products, and I tried some beet bean dip that I am SO excited about (ya’ll know how infatuated I am with beets). Gotham Greens has the largest rooftop garden in the WORLD at its Pullman location in Chicago, and they also partner with Gardeneers, an organization that works to grow school gardens.  I signed up to volunteer; exposing students to healthy food is SO important!

Sunday 3/25

Run:  Rest day! I was happy to have one because my hip still hurts, plus it’s Shamrock Shuffle Race Day.  I coached 3 athletes running this year and they did SO well!  One even got a 5 minute PR! After so many times running a race and getting high fives at the November Project cheer station, I was so thrilled to be the one cheering and GIVING high fives.

Other: After the race, I went to Sheffield’s to hang with some NPers then home to meal prep and get set for the week ahead.  I made some peanut butter jelly overnight oats that I’m sure you’ll see featured on my Instagram Stories for “What I Ate Wednesday.”

And that’s it for Weekly Wrap 20! I ran 60.5 miles and went to three strength classes.  I’m hoping this hip thing isn’t anything that will derail my training, but I will be keeping an eye on it.  It just feels all jammed up, like I need someone to yank my foot down and loosen it.  We shall see! Otherwise, this week was pretty darn great.  I love being part of such a vast running community.

Looking ahead, this is my final build week for Earth Day!  I plan on back to back 25 milers and two or three strength classes again. PLUS yoga which I neglected on Sunday for the race.  It’s Spring Break for CPS, but my company doesn’t take off, so I’ll be working on projects this week.  Next weekend, I’ll have another book club meeting (we read Dark Matter) and then Easter brunch.

How was your week?  What are your Easter plans?  What is your favorite spring veggie?  Stay in touch!  Follow me on Instagram  or Facebook for more food/fitness related posts.

Happy running,

Becca

How fun to be cheering at the Shamrock Shuffle! The costume looks nice and toasty!. Congrats to your 3 athletes too. I hope your hip calms down soon. My left one gets cranky occasionally. Thanks for linking!

I love seeing your face at Stair Mondays!! Thank you for cheering at Shamrock – it was such a rush of adreneline before the last mile!

That trail run! How fun to be out there with friends. I read Dark Matter last year at my mom’s suggestion. It was a wild ride from start to finish. It reads like a movie.

I hope your hip feels better soon. Good luck with your final push week!

I’m so jealous of your long run Friday- I always loved getting mine down on a Friday (even though I suppose you are doing TWO when training for an ultra). My husband is training for an ultra and has to do his Sat/Sun. (I’m pretty happy at 26.2 miles…when I ever get to run again).

Great week, and so much strength training- amazing! The frittata looks scrumptious.

That was you?! I pointed and smiled at you! OMG! Had I known, I would have stopped for a selfie. Thanks for being out there!

That skillet looks so tasty! Hard to believe it is vegan. I tend to do my longer runs during the week as well since my schedule is pretty flexible right now. It is always nice to have a group to run with.

It’s always fun and rewarding to see people you have trained do well!
