Berlin Marathon Training Week 5

Welcome to Weekly Wrap.  Today’s all about recapping Berlin Marathon training week 5.  Linking up with Holly and Wendy, enjoy!

Monday 6/11

Run:  Easy 6 miles in the rain.  I’ve been trying to keep my Monday runs completely in zone 2 for heart rate and was pleased that I spent 45 of the 50 minutes in that zone.  Later I did a 30 minute core class.

Other:  Published a new recipe: Vegan Pineapple Cashew Stir Fry and hosted a cashew giveaway to help get you started. The recipe was inspired by the lunch at Brightwok I had with my coworker a few weeks ago; I traded out the rice for quinoa for more protein and added peas instead of tofu so it’s easier to make.

Tuesday 6/12

Run: Track Tuesday with November Project! My workout was 2x 2.5 miles, first at tempo then 10k.  It was hard to push myself to that 10k pace and I just maintained tempo pace.  It was so foggy and humid that at the end of the workout I was covered in dew.

Other: In the evening, I met Evelyn for our race-plan meeting before Grandma’s Marathon on Saturday.  Spoiler alert: she CRUSHED the race and got a 54 minute PR! I was so happy!  After that, I joined EDGE for my typical Tuesday double run.

Wednesday 6/13

Run:  My first off day in two weeks.  Yikes.  (Due to Global Running Day last week).  I just did strength class in the morning and then had a pretty relaxing day.

Thursday 6/14

Run: Track morning with EDGE.  The workout was pretty boring, but a good one.  .5mi @ 10k, 10x .25mi @5k with a 200m jog between.  I ran with Michael and loved his mantra, “Last one, Fast one.” At the end, we added on 4 hill sprints.

Other:  I was able to make it to Fran’s Buddha Burn class at Zen Yoga Garage.  It was my first yoga class in a while.  I had taken a break to heal my hamstring, but it felt good to be back on the mat.

Friday 6/15

Run: Easy run to November Project.  Totaled 5 miles for the day.  We celebrated Chris Clark’s birthday with a poem workout and then I hung out with people at Panera after.  Made myself some delicious high-protein blueberry ginger nice cream and cherry basil nice cream for breakfast.  Because, Friday and birthdays just call for ice cream for breakfast.  Find the recipe here.

Other:  The World Cup has started!! Que viva España! I went to a patio bar to watch the Spain v. Portugal game with some other flex schedule friends.  SUCH a close game, although it ended in a 3-3 tie, making my dislike for Ronaldo even bigger.

Saturday 6/16

Run:  Long run with EDGE.  They had 9 miles easy pace with the last 2 miles as hill repeats.  We went up and down Cricket Hill a bajillion number of times, and then I tacked on an additional 3 miles to total 12.

Other:  In the evening, November Project hosted a prom! It was so much fun to dress up and party with the group; we are so used to seeing each other in workout gear.  One of my oldest friends, Amanda, joined me and we had a blast.  I also debuted my new short hair!

Sunday 6/17

Run: Easy 6 mile trail run with Fran. It was HOT and HUMID, but such a lovely run.

Other:  Celebrated Father’s Day with the parents, Jon and Mark Thomas at Revival Social Club for brunch.  They were out of the vegan dish, which normally would have caused me a lot of anxiety, but I was able to create a meal from different ingredients on the menu.  I ordered an omelet with no eggs, with all the vegetables and black beans, then a side of fruit and some potatoes. Progress.

And that’s a wrap.  Berlin Marathon training week 5 in the books.  As it was a recovery week, I totaled 46 miles, with three strength classes, and 8 miles of bike commuting.  Hamstring is still tight so hopefully next week I can get into see the chiro.  Super cool announcements coming this week, plus a giveaway or two, so stay tuned!

Happy running,

Becca

That stir fry looks delicious. One cannot go wrong with some pineapple in the mix and hooray for quinoa! Wow week 5 for Berlin already! Great week.

Congratulations to your runner on her marathon PB, it sounds like you’re as proud of her as of your own achievements. Amazing week, I’ve never got above 40 miles and when I did that, I got really unwell as I knocked my immune system badly. You’re obviously going to shine in Berlin!

Wow! Amazing sunrises for you this week. I know how hard it is to keep your HR lower in the heat and humidity. So, you get extra kudos from me on that! How fun that NP hosted a prom! It would be so cool to dress up like that. (I never do!). Thanks for linking!

I didn’t know November Project has track workouts—or proms. 😉 Nice workaround for brunch. Love the idea of a no-egg omelet!

That was a recovery week for you? Oh my! That looks like one of my tough weeks! And man, do I wish I could do a track workout on an actual track. Don’t have access to one out here. Makes me so sad. Virginia has some strange laws. *sigh*

Congratulations to your athlete on her 54 minute PR! That’s absolutely incredible!!!

Love that sunrise photo at the track- congrats to your athlete at Grandma’s! Every year I’ve run that marathon, it’s been HOT, but they had PERFECT weather this year. I’m jealous!
