Weekly Wrap 19

Welcome to Weekly Wrap 19!  This was week 10 of ultra marathon training.  There’s just one more month until Earth Day 50k. I was coming off a vacation so it took a while to get back into the swing of things, but overall the week went well!  Linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap 19!

Monday 3/12

Run:  Easy 4 miles.  Initially I was going to take a rest day, but I needed just a little shakeout after all the travel.  Kept it slow and steady before heading to EDGE.

Other:  Since I was still on vacation, I took the opportunity to grocery shop, unpack and work on my Expo West recap.  Check it out to see some of the products I tried.

Tuesday 3/13

Run:  Met Nez in the morning for speed.  So grateful to have an accountabilibuddy because I did not want to get out of bet.  But I did!  The speed workout was so-so.  It was 8 miles total, 6 miles worth of fartlek (.75/.25).  I faded fast, and just hung on. I’m chalking it up to dehydration and time change.

Other:  In the afternoon, I met with some other trainers in Chicago for a Sweatworking class.  We worked out at Crosstown Fitness and then a small business tax accountant spoke with us.  It was SO helpful, I’m glad I went – even though the workout kicked my butt.

Wednesday 3/14

Run: In the morning I went to strength class.  After, I debated for 20 minutes about going for a run (I needed to do 8-10 easy miles).  But by the time I made up my mind, I didn’t have enough time to finish before work.  Instead, I went for a lunch run.  Luckily, a friend from November Project was able to run 2 of the miles with me.  Then, as I was running back home, another runner started talking with me.  This is the second time in a month where another runner randomly struck up a conversation with me and shared a few miles with me.  Does that happen to anyone else?  I don’t think I look friendlier than the average person, but maybe?

Other: You know that feeling when your body is worn down and just feels junky?  And then you get a massage and suddenly you feel like rainbows? That was my Wednesday afternoon. She cupped me all over and I felt like magic.

Thursday 3/15

Run:  Rest day today, just yoga in the morning.  It felt good to stretch out.

Other:  After work, I drove home to hang with my mom and Frizzle.  Dad was out of town and I wanted a girls night.  I introduced mom to Roti Mediterranean Grill, and she introduced me to the show Gracie and Frankie on Netflix.  We were laughing our butts off while Frizzle slept on the couch.  Perfect night.

Friday 3/16

Run: I didn’t work today, so I headed to Crystal Lake to run in Veterans Acres.  This is where the race will be, so I wanted to train on the course.  As the sun came out, so did the mud.  By the end I was slipping around and had to stop to scrape off all the mud.  I wanted to get to 25 miles, but after 4 hours I decided I was at the point of diminishing returns.  So I stopped at 22 miles, but I got in 2,045 ft of elevation!

Other:  I published 5 Trends from Expo West which also has a GIVEAWAY at the end of the post.  I found so many cool products that I want to share with you all.  Head to the post to see how you can enter to win a sample pack with some Expo West goodies!

Saturday 3/17

Run:  Maybe the worst idea I’ve had in a while, I ran 25 miles on a treadmill.  I was going to go to trails again, but Al texted me that it was sleeting rain and really muddy conditions. The weather looked fine here in Chicago, but I could see that the radar was iffy a few hours from then.  My desire for elevation won out against my ideas of running home to Highland Park like I did last St. Patty’s Day.  NEVER AGAIN.  But the best part was that two of the girls who go to EDGE, Laura and Stephanie, gave me some riddles to occupy my mind once I got into the 20s.  That helped a lot!

Other:  Joined some high school friends in the St. Patty’s Day shenanigans.  I think it was my first time being in a crowded smelly bar with hundreds of drunk people in a long time. But I had fun catching up with everyone.  And then around 4pm that “I need food NOW” feeling hit and I went down the street to Veggie Grill.  Cheers.

Sunday 3/18

Run: Glorious rest day after a monster back-to-back weekend.  I went to EDGE in the morning and then did Hot Yoga at Zen.  After the 22 miles on Friday and 25 on Saturday, I felt fantastic after stretching out.  The instructor read out this quote at the start of class:  Mountains are not meant to be carried.  They’re meant to be climbed.  I loved it!

Other:  I met a friend at pHlour Bakery up in Edgewater for a coaching meeting.  It was such a cute place.  I had a delicious veggie sandwich on homemade bread – it was still warm when they brought it out!

And that’s it for Weekly Wrap 19!  I totaled 67.5 miles for the week, my biggest week of the year so far.  I’m getting excited about Earth Day, but I definitely feel a bit worn down.  This coming week is a down week for me, and then one final build before taper.  Next weekend I will be going to the Chicago Good Food Expo on Saturday and then cheering on athletes I’m coaching as well as other runner friends in the Shamrock Shuffle.

Hope you had a nice week!  Have you ever gotten cupping before? What are you watching on Netflix or TV these days? Don’t forget to enter my Expo West giveaway.

Happy running,

Becca

Holy shhhhhh….22 miles AND 25 back to back!? That’s awesome and crazy at the same time! I can’t imagine haha. I am just going into training for marathon #2 and running more than one 4 hour long run once a week sounds really hard.

I also agree that a massage can really help you feel better after some difficult training sessions. I can’t wait for my next one!

Holy moly, 25 miles on the treadmill! that’s incredible mental strength right there. Way to go! Do you watch TV or anything?

Great week of running! I have always wanted to try getting cupping done. Did it hurt? Do you do it just as a form of recovery or are you fighting an injury?

Great job with all of your training! I couldn’t imagine running 25 miles on a treadmill. The most I’ve ever done was 10 and I’m pretty sure my longest lately is 4 lol. Sounds like you are ready for your upcoming 50k!

25 miles on a treadmill!! I was balking at the idea of 8 the other day (and ended up running outside!). I’m okay on the treadmill for short sessions but I’ve never ran longer than 45 minutes on one. Nice to have the riddles to get your mind working.

I have not tried cupping yet, but I’m up for a good massage anytime! Super impressive back-to-back mileage AND on the TM! wow!

Wow! I can’t believe you ran 22 miles of hills and then 25 miles on the treadmill the next day! I had to read that twice. Plus 25 miles on the treadmill? I’d say you’re going to do just fine at your 50k.

I’m running the Shamrock Shuffle too!

25 miles on a treadmill is very impressive! Congrats on the largest mileage week of the year. I just recently had a runner strike up a conversation and run a few miles with me. She was an older running getting ready to run her 100th marathon. That small encounter let me with loads of inspiration. I have not tried cupping yet. How long does it take for the marks to go away? Thanks for linking.

That bread looks heavenly. You’re the treadmill queen! I thought I about lost it a few weeks ago when I did 14 on the treadmill, but 25 is a whole new level. Way to power through!
