Just Trucking Along | Weekly Wrap

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap.  This week’s wrap is short and sweet.  More 5k and marathon training, more recipes and more coaching.  Same as last week, but this time with lots of cold temperatures and snow! I feel like I am just trucking along through January with nothing really major to note.  Linking up with Holly and Wendy for this Weekly Wrap.

Monday 1/14

Run:  Speed workout!  Another 5am team workout with some other Windrunners.  The path was snowy and a bit slippery, so I dialed back the pace a bit.  Even so, I felt FAST and could tell that the consistency at the goal paces is starting to show.

Tuesday 1/15

Run: Easy 7.5.  Coached Sprint Tuesday in the morning and ran easy miles while they did speed.  I was happy that Jeremy was finally back!

Other: Strength at OYM.  I went to a new strength class tonight, Athletic Performance.  We ran through ladders, used resistance bands and did box jumps.  All with the purpose or dynamic lateral movement that is soooo not something I am used to.

Wednesday 1/16

Run: Off Day.  I had to take a total off day because I had an appointment to test my VO2 max on Thursday.  Slept in and enjoyed being a sloth.

Other:  I went up to visit my parents for the evening and cook dinner.  Frizzle perched herself on the couch the whole time, watching me in the kitchen.  Apparently that’s her favorite spot!

Thursday 1/17

Run: VO2 + easy.  Since the test was on a bike, I ran a few easy miles in the afternoon when I got home.  The test was HARD, has anyone else done it before?  I don’t know the results yet, they’ll send them later, but I can’t wait to see if it matches up with my Garmin.

Friday 1/18

Run: Long Run//Tempo Run Combo.  Normally my tempo run is Thursday and my long run Saturdays.  However, with missing my tempo run for the test yesterday and coaching Saturday, I combined my long run and tempo in a delightful workout for Friday.  14 miles with 7 miles of tempo work.  On the treadmill no less!  The workout ended up going by rather quickly.  Watching the news and impending winter storm definitely helped.  It was a long workout, but made me feel like a badass at work the rest of the day.

Other:  New recipe alert!  Published a new recipe for vegan sloppy joes.  This is what I made when I visited my parents on Wednesday.  It is so simple and delicious that I had to share the post ASAP.  Enjoy!

Saturday 1/19

Run: Coaching.  It was the groups last long run before the F3 Half Marathon next weekend.  And winter finally decided to show up!  Overnight we received 5 inches of snow and the winds were blowing it all around.  Plus it was still snowing by the time we started.  The EDGE group is hearty though and there was quite a big group.  We battled snow drifts, blowing winds and chilly temperatures.  I always enjoy running outdoors in the winter for the sheer craziness of it.  The things we runners do, right?

Sunday 1/20

Run: Strength class + easy 5 miles.  Went to OYM in the morning.  Some of the exercise highlights were: plyo pushups, treadmill sprints, farmer carry, and plyo bicep curls (basically do a bicep curl but toss a body bar up in the air and catch it at the top).  I know my arms will be sore tomorrow! After class, I hit the treadmill for some easy conversational paced miles with a friend.  Treadmill runs are always better with company!

Just trucking along with training

And that’s a wrap! 47 miles this week, with some solid speed and strength training.  January is just trucking along.  This coming weekend is my next 5k race, and while I feel confident in my speed, I am nervous about the weather.  The forecasted high is 3 degrees.  Yikes!

How was your week?  Let’s stay in touch!  Follow me on Instagram or Facebook for more food/fitness related posts.

Happy running,

Becca

What I really love about your recipes is when you say simple, they are.
Impressed with that treadmill workout – eager to hear your VO Max results

14 miles on the treadmill? with seven of them tempo-paced? You are a beast!

I”m really interested in that VO2 max test! Are you going to do a blog post talking about it and your results? I definitely want to read that!

Those vegan sloppy joes look amazing! *drools*

Curious how your arms feel today after those Plyo bicep curls yesterday. lol Those definitely sound interesting!

That will be interesting to see how the VO2 max test matches up. I sometimes think my Garmin is crazy due to those recovery times when it says “3 days”. geez!!! Apparently I think I’m in much better shape than I really am. haha

It was a strong week for you despite the winter conditions! I haven’t had Sloppy Joes in ages. Frizzle was definitely interested in them. I’m going to check out your recipe. I haven’t had a VO2 max test. I’m curious to see what you think about your results. Thanks for linking!

you did log a lot of miles this week. So does your team do speedwork on Monday and Tuesday mornings?

I’ve been thinking about F3 and started to regret not signing up but now that winter has really rolled in YIKES! No thanks. Frizzle is adorable! Those sloppy joes look great. I hope I can get my 13 yo newly vegetarian daughter to eat them.

Wow 47 miles this week? That’s awesome, especially considering the weather conditions in Chicago these past two weeks.

Your vegan sloppy joe recipe looks so good. That would be perfect comfort food for today as it’s super cold here!

All I could think is that it was a good thing F3 wasn’t this weekend! Man it was cold! You still got 47 miles in, which was truly amazing, considering the conditions. Keep on truckin’!
