Bye Bye Computer

Welcome to the Weekly Wrap.  Anyone else think that February can just leave now? This month is the shortest, but feels like the longest.  I had to say bye computer this morning as it went kaput. Linking up with Holly and Wendy for this Weekly Wrap.

Bye, bye, computer

My normal weekly wrap is a bit different today.  Typically, Sundays consist of a trail run with friends in the morning, brunch, and then working in the afternoon.  I use the time to catch up on the workout logs of the athlete’s I coach, write the Weekly Wrap blog post, and start drafts of recipe or workout posts for later in the week.  I love my Sunday routine.

Today was a bit different.  The trails are currently sheets of ice.  And it snowed, AGAIN, this morning.  I went for a run along the lake instead.  There would be no slipping and risking injuries for me!

Since I didn’t have to drive out to the trails, I ended earlier than normal.  Woo! What to do with my extra time?  I cooked a leisurely brunch.  Finished the Sunday crossword puzzle.  Called my parents.  I even spent 20 minutes foam rolling, which, let’s be honest, I always THINK that rolling for 5 minutes is enough, but it’s not.

In the late morning, I decided to start work.  Coaching plans, blog post, coaching meetings, study for PT certification.  Lots on my agenda today.  After walking to my favorite coffee shop and settling in with a nice turmeric tea, I opened my laptop.

Now, my laptop is old.  Well, old as far as technology goes.  I’ve used the same one since 2013. It’s at least 8 pounds, really big and clunky, with a few dents and dings.  If I pack my laptop in my gym bag, by the time I walk to work my shoulder hurts.  That might say something more about my arm strength than technology, but whatever.  The point is, my laptop works just fine.  My philosophy with technology is “if it works, I should still use it.”  An environmental approach, I guess.

Well, today, my screen suddenly went black.  No low power notification, no whirling circle of death.  One moment I was writing a workout for an athlete, and then next I was starting at a black screen.  Uh-oh.

A trip to the Apple Store taught me that my computer is considered “vintage” and that Apple no longer carries the replacement parts I need.  Bye bye, computer.  After I learned how much a new laptop costs, I said bye bye, Apple Store.  When did laptops become so expensive?  TBD on what happens next.  So, with the added few hours at the store, and coaching plans to write, the weekly wrap will have to wait for a different Sunday.

Happy running,

Well, that’s frustrating. I’m planning on buying a new computer this year. I have a 2015 MacBook Pro and want to upgrade it. But yeah, Macs aren’t cheap. I’ve been on a Mac for years and years, and it’s prevalent in my field with some software only working on a Mac. I couldn’t go back to a PC full-time. That run by the lake looks so cold!

Oh man, my Mac is likely considered “vintage” as well. I do not even need that happening to me right now! Now I’m nervous!! Have you decided what you’re going to do?

Smart call on staying safe and avoiding injuries. And good job on getting that extra rolling in. I, too, usually think 5 minutes is enough. Why can’t it be? lol

Check for refurb deals, there can be some good ones and they often come with Apple’s guarantee. I had a little sticker shock when I replaced my laptop 3? years ago, but I love Mac too much to ever go back to a PC.

Ahh oh no! I hope you can get any important files you had off your old laptop. Though it’s had a good life to be up and running since 2013. And aren’t laptops crazy expensive these days?! I finally caved and bought a new one a couple years ago (and switched to Apple) and I sure hope this thing lasts for many, many years to make up for the $$$$. 🙁

Oh no!! I had very similar thing happen to me about this time last year. My screen also went black! It was random, and sometimes it would come back on. I was freaked! Luckily when I took my MacBook Pro over to the Apple store it was still something they could fix. Ended up costing $600 for a new display, but I was so happy to get it back. I think it’s got a lot more years left it in. Hope you find a suitable replacement soon!

Oh no how frustrating! I’ve had that happen to my laptop before…a replacement will be a nice treat!

So when the trails are too slippery, is the lakeshore path still in pretty good shape? I did a long run along it a few years ago in the winter and my one compliant was there were no bathrooms when I needed one 🙂

Ugh. Computer angst is tough. That’s a nasty kink into a perfectly great Sunday. I’m keeping fingers crossed I can fly out of here ok with all the weather we keep having. It’s beyond ridiculous.

Ugh that’s a bummer 🙁 So sorry to hear about your laptop. I agree that the prices of the Apple laptops are kind of crazy. I got my Mac a few years ago when it was definitely more reasonable. I hope that you’re able to find a new one that you like. I have a Dell laptop for work and I really like it.

Ooh that is vintage in the computer world! Surprised it lasted so long. I hear you on the foam rolling but it feels so much better when you do it for longer right 🙂

Oh that’s a bummer! It’s hard saying goodbye to stuff like that. I just got a new phone this week…it’s not too different, but I had to upload a bunch of stuff and re-enter some passwords for different apps (UGH). I know technology is there to make things easier, but I still fight it a lot of the time LOL

I had to say goodbye to my old MacBook a few years ago. It was big, it was clunky, and it was painfully slow. It still works but not very well. I did get a new MacBook but it doesn’t wow me. What do you think you’ll get? It will be hard to go Windows after being a Mac user for so long!
